Drawing frames in metal
The metal shapes, also known as drawing frames, are fundamental tools in Montessori pedagogy. They serve as a perfect first step in language learning and fine motor development in kindergarten-aged children.
The drawing frames create an understanding of shapes, strengthen fine motor skills and prepare the little hand for pencil grip.
The set includes two stands with metal shapes:
Stand 1: 5 rectilinear shapes
Stand 2: 5 curved shapes
How do I use the product?
Preparation:
Place a set of drawing frames on the floor or table in front of the child. Start with the straight-line shapes.
Introduction:
1. Hold the shapes up to the child and say the name of the shape.
2. Let your child hold the shapes and feel the smooth metal surfaces. Encourage them to describe how they feel.
3. Hold one of the shapes flat on the table. Slowly move your finger along the edges of the shape and say the name of the shape loudly and clearly (e.g., "square").
4. Encourage your child to choose a shape and trace it themselves. Let them explore the shapes at their own pace.
Tip!
Drawing shapes:
Place the blue metal mold on a sheet of paper and use a pencil or marker to draw around the mold. You can also draw inside the pink frame.
Geometric art:
Place the blue shape on a piece of paper and draw around the shape, turn the shape over a bit and draw around again. Soon you have a geometric piece of art!
